OUR HISTORY

In 1987, while studying at the university to be a teacher of Spanish Language and Latin-American Literature, our Academic Director researched Spanish Linguistics, and specifically the grammatical differences among different regions and countries of Latin America, as well as regional dialects. He found that in Quito people speak clearly, and that ultimately, Ecuador was an excellent place to teach Spanish to foreigners. Moreover, Ecuador was an excellent place for professionals to learn Spanish specifically in areas of medicine, law, business, etc. Similarly, other foreigners who wanted to learn conversational Spanish to travel, or open a business in Spanish speaking countries, or to work in Latin America, would also be satisfied with the Spanish spoken in Ecuador.

I.S.E. opened its first Spanish school in Quito, Ecuador in 1988. In 1994, IS.E. opened another Spanish Language School in Otavalo, Ecuador. I.S.E. also offers special Spanish programs for students who are professionals, for those students who want to travel in Ecuador, those who have just a few weeks to stay in our country, or to people who would like to learn Spanish rapidly, and enjoy exploring one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. For example, in 1998 Instituto Superior de Español started to teach Spanish classes in the Amazon Jungle and a Traveling Classroom for Spanish classes in Ecuador, where students travel from one city to another learning Spanish. The Spanish teachers in this program not only have a degree in linquistics, but also a degree in tourism; therefor they not only teach they act as guides on the daily excursions during this program. Our Traveling Classroom program is considered one of the best in Ecuador according to former students, because our students feel more comfortable exploring the country with a knowledgeable and trusted guide at their side.

In 1999 Instituto Superior de Español opened another branch to offer Spanish classes on the Galapagos Islands and has begun holding Spanish language programs there.

Moreover, since 1992, I.S.E. has been involved in the development of environmental programs in Ecuador, and in helping Ecuadorian foundations that aid street children and those who come from financially challenged families, with places to stay and study.

Because Instituto Superior de Español offers first class Spanish courses and also takes a keen interest in its students' academic progress, it ensures the students' time in “Superior” Spanish classes is a valuable and profitable learning experience.

Actually Instituto Superior de Español offers Spanish language courses in in the entire country of Ecuador. “Superior” has institutions to teach Spanish language courses in Quito, in Otavalo, on the Galapagos Islands and in the Amazon jungle. We are renowned in Ecuador for not only our first class instructors to teach Spanish courses, but for our personalized approach to learning. We want to help our students to get all they can out of their time in Ecuador, whether they want to immerse themselves in learning Spanish, wish to combine Spanish lessons with volunteer experience, or combine Spanish classes with some Ecuadorian adventures from the Amazon rainforest to the Galapagos Islands. Great emphasis is placed on extra-curricular activities, from cultural experiences to excursions to locations of outstanding beauty; students will be given plenty of opportunity to practice their new Spanish language skills with the teachers, their new friends and guides.
